With a new independent and multi-purpose department for one-day surgeries, equipped with the latest technology to ensure accuracy and safety, Henry Dunant aspires to shape a new landscape by minimizing suffering and increasing safety levels for patients.
Following an innovative design in line with the standards of the largest hospital centers abroad, the new department handles all surgical procedures that do not require an overnight stay in the hospital, with no need for the traditional hospital admission procedure. With 11 beds for all the so-called minor surgeries that can be performed under local anesthesia or sedation and a new case management process, the innovative facility facilitates patient scheduling and results in lower medical costs compared to traditional inpatient procedures. With the new process, all cases are treated in the same place (from appointment scheduling, surgery, post-operative follow-up to discharge), allowing the patient to return safely to his/her home for full recovery within a few hours.
The new department significantly improves patient experience, offering a safer, more comfortable and efficient option for many surgical procedures of various specialties (orthopedic, ophthalmological, urological, dermatological, etc.). Indicative examples include carpal tunnel release, removal of skin lesions, soft tissue procedures (lipomas, cysts, etc.), abscess incisions, as well as biopsies (skin - muscle, temporal, lymph nodes, breast, etc.). A special role in the operation of the new department is played by its specialized staff, ensuring targeted preoperative and postoperative care, tailored to the needs of each patient.
The clinical advantages that the new department offers for one-day surgery are significant for both patients and the hospital. In addition to optimizing hospital resources, a reduction in waiting times is ensured leading to faster service as patients do not have to wait for an available bed and can schedule their surgeries more quickly. In addition, the operation of the new department frees up beds for more serious cases and achieves better management of the use of operating rooms. The reduction of patient stress is also noteworthy, as the short and organized stay and rapid recovery combined with specialized care has been shown to reduce the stress associated with surgical procedures.
Mr. Evangelos Chatzimargaritis, Administrative Director of Henry Dunant, commented on the operation of the new department: “Designed with a view to the convenience and comfort of patients and their families, the new facility offers a wide range of surgical procedures in a safe, high-quality environment, allowing patients to return home the same day. Henry Dunant’s innovative state-of-the-art one-day surgery department marks the future in hospital management with a focus on personalized care. One-day surgeries are a valuable tool for both patients and the healthcare system.”
