The World Health Organization’s (WHO) activities in our country for World Hand Hygiene Day will culminate on Friday 5 May 2023, with a central event at the Henry Dunant Hospital Center.
The event, which is under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, is part of WHO’s international campaign to intensify hand hygiene at health care settings under the slogan “SAVE LIVES: clean your hands”. The ultimate goal of the WHO is to increase compliance with hand hygiene, a key factor in reducing infections both in the community and in health care settings.
For 2023, the WHO has designated 5 May as World Hand Hygiene Day using the key message “accelerate action together”. In the spirit of this collaboration of health care actors, the Henry Dunant Hospital Center in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office in Athens, the National Public Health Organization (EODY), the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Health (ODIPY) and the Greek Society for Infection Control (EEEL), are teaming up for a joint combination of actions and the development of a common national strategy to increase compliance with the most important measure of infection prevention.
The celebration of World Hand Hygiene Day will take place on Friday 5 May 2023 at the Henry Dunant Hospital Center Auditorium (12:30 - 15:30). Welcome speeches at the event will be delivered by the Minister of Health Mr. Athanasios Plevris, the Secretary General of Health Services Mr. Ioannis Kotsiopoulos, Mr. Joao Breda, Head of WHO Athens Quality of Care Office, the President of EODY Mr. Theoklis Zaoutis, the President of ODIPY Ms. Daphne Kaitelidou, and the President of EEL Ms. Angeliki Karaiskou. The event will be opened by Mr. Vasileios Balanis, CEO of ODIPY, and Mr. Themos Charamis, President and CEO of the Henry Dunant Hospital Center.
