How important is effective communication between the nursing and medical staff and patients in case of acute events? What can happen during a dialysis session? In which cases should a patient notify and ask for help from the staff? How can patients participate in dialysis scheduling? How do we read basic machine readings?
These are some of the questions specialist nephrologists will address in the last lesson of the course, on Sunday, April 22nd, 11:00 to 13:00 at the Henry Dunant Hospital Center, with free entry. The 5th and final lesson is titled “Acute events in hemodialysis.
What can go wrong in a dialysis session? Organized by the Hellenic Society Nephrology Nurses, with the support of Henry Dunant Hospital Center and under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.
These lessons aim to empower dialysis patients and their families through the knowledge and understanding of their responsibility for a participative management of the issues that condition their daily routine.
The courses are primarily addressed to hemodialysis patients and their families, as well as to any interested health professional (physicians, nurses, psychologists, etc.). The total duration of each lesson is two hours, while the duration of the main lecture does not exceed 20 minutes. A discussion is held at the remaining time, with questions and answers on the subject.
The training cycle opened last December, and the subjects covered are carried out on a monthly basis. So far, the following subjects have been covered: “The ABC’s of hemodialysis : Basic knowledge of hemodialysis methods and vascular access” “What we eat when on dialysis “and Understanding our laboratory tests and medicines “and” Quality of life in hemodialysis (physical exercise, travel, entertainment, sexuality)”.
