Activities

The clinic is active in the treatment of the entire range of Pulmonology-related pathology. The clinic’s physicians are available on a 24-hour basis in co-operation with the emergency department.Patients can visit our outpatient clinic on a daily basis.A fully equipped laboratory operates in the department that allows assessment of the respiratory system and diagnosis of respiratory diseases.

More specifically:

Laboratory for the assessment of respiratory function, where all necessary examinations are carried out for the diagnosis, staging and monitoring of the response to respiratory disease treatment.

  • Spirometry
  • Flow/volume loop (spirogram)
  • Measurement of static lung volumes
  • Pulmonary diffusing capacity test
  • Airway resistance measurement
  • Respiratory muscle assessment
  • Plethysmographic screening
  • Blood gases
  • 6MWT (6 minute walk test)
  • Preoperative assessment

Ergospirometry.

Ergospirometry or most accurately termed cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is a very useful and simple procedural examination. With this test we acquire information regarding the functioning of the heart and lungs, as well as the functioning of the entire body, both at rest but mainly during exercise. In clinical practice, this test is used in diagnosis, assessment of the severity and prognosis of various diseases, preoperative assessment of patients, as well as the assessment of treatment. It is also used in the measurement of basal metabolism (both at rest and during exercise), but also in all professional sports centers for assessing the physical condition of the athletes.

Broncholytic laboratory.

The Broncholytic laboratory performs diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopies using the latest generation video bronchoscopes. It also implements the entire spectrum of invasive techniques (such as TBNA, endobronchial biopsies, collection of bronchoalveolar lavage - BAL).The laboratory performs diagnostic and pleura evacuation paracentesis, placement of pleural effusion drainage catheters and pleurodesis for malignant pleural effusions.

Sleep study.

The department exploits the already existing sleep study laboratory, which has a long experience in the field of sleep medicine.

Non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

The physicians of the department, who are also specialized in intensivology, treat patients with respiratory failure using CPAP, BiPAP and portable respirators.
