The signing of a memorandum of understanding between Henry Dunant Hospital Center and the famous Charles University (Univerzita Karlova) of the Czech Republic marks a new important milestone in the journey of Henry Dunant.
As of the new academic year, the clinical training of the university’s medical students in pathology (12 weeks) and surgery (10 weeks) will take place at Henry Dunant. The selection of Henry Dunant by Charles University as a training center for its medical students demonstrates the particularly high scientific level of the doctors of Henry Dunant (many of whom are university professors), as well as the excellence of its infrastructure and medical-technological equipment, which ensure the excellent training of students in modern medicine. The collaboration is not limited to students from Greece only; it applies to any student or group of students from the historic university who will seek to combine a visit to Athens with their clinical training. It should be noted that outside the Czech Republic, Charles University has signed similar memoranda of understanding only with German hospitals.
Charles University is one of the oldest (founded in 1348) and most famous universities in Europe, the list of professors who taught in it including even Albert Einstein. It has one of the oldest medical schools in Europe and has contributed decisively to the shaping of Western civilization and the transition from the medieval period to the period of the scientific revolution, the Enlightenment and modernity.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the visit of the Henry Dunant delegation to Pilzen, Czech Republic, by the Dean of the School, Mr. Jindrich Finek and the Chairman of the Henry Dunant Board of Directors, Mr. Themos Charamis.
On the occasion of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the President of Henry Dunant, Mr. Themos Charamis, stated: “The selection of Henry Dunant by Charles University for the clinical training of its medical students is a great honor and confirms the dynamics developed by the hospital, which transcends Greek borders. For Henry Dunant, this cooperation is strategic, and we will seek to extend it soon to include other areas, such as research work. We are proud to be able to be associated with the history of Charles University.”
