A new era has begun for the Nephrology Clinic of Henry Dunant, following the complete modernization of its technological equipment and its operation with specifications that rival the most modern nephrology centers abroad.
Every patient has 24-hour access to one of the largest and most comprehensive nephrology centers in the country, with a Kidney Dialysis Unit that continues to lead the way, as it now features:
- 30 state-of-the-art 6008 CAREsystem hemodialysis machines capable of applying all hemodialysis methods (classic dialysis, on-line hemodiafiltration in all positions). The new dialysis machines are different from all previous generation machines, as they feature technologies and applications that appear for the first time in dialysis machines worldwide. This is the first and only KDU in a Greek hospital that uses the state-of-the-art 6008 CAREsystem. As a matter of fact, all dialysis beds use this medical device.
- The new applications include, inter alia, a system for calculating the flow of the patient’s vascular access (fistula), a system for calculating patient’s sodium (Na) intake or removal during dialysis, and a system for measuring the patient’s Hematocrit (HCT) and hemoglobin (Hb) during treatment.
- With the state-of-the-art 6008 CAREsystem, the risk of thrombosis during treatment is further minimized, as the design of the lines is based on innovative technologies that minimize the retention of air in the circuit while offering a lower extracorporeal circulation volume. In addition, the fact that handling steps as well as critical contact points are reduced leads to a reduced risk of contamination and contributes to advanced safety for both patients and operators.
The Dialysis Unit can provide services to 200 patients on a weekly basis and offers comprehensive therapeutic treatment of patients’ nephrological needs according to the strictest standards of international organizations (JCI). The Kidney Dialysis Unit is equipped with low and high flux dialysis filters and a state-of-the-art online water treatment system, and there is a separate room for Hepatitis B patients and an isolated unit for Covid patients.
On the occasion of the operation of the new dialysis system, the Director of the Nephrology Clinic and the Kidney Dialysis Unit of the Henry Dunant Hospital, Mr. Spyros Moutafis, commented: “Since its opening, the Henry Dunant Kidney Dialysis Unit has been a center of reference. We are proud, however, because alongside the personalized care we provide to all blood donors, we have created a large family and an environment that goes beyond the boundaries of a hospital setting. To us, a kidney patient is not just patient, but one of our own. Keeping this relationship intact, with the new state-of-the-art equipment we are opening a new great chapter that allows the Henry Dunant Kidney Dialysis Unit to compete with any similar state-of-the-art center abroad”.
