A pioneering surgery performed for the first time in Greece, at the Henry Dunant Vascular Access Center, is shaping a new landscape for patients on hemodialysis. It involves the creation of a vascular access using the VasQ device, which is applied to patients about to be admitted for dialysis in the most specialized vascular surgery centers in Western Europe and America, ensuring a number of advantages for renal patients entering the dialysis cycle.
The innovative surgery was successfully performed by the internationally renowned vascular surgeon Mr. Alexandros Mallios, director of the corresponding unit at the Paris Saint-Joseph Hospital in Paris, who is now working with Henry Dunant, and by the vascular - endovascular surgeon in charge of the Vascular Access Center at Henry Dunant, Mr.
Georgios Chatzantonis. The innovative VasQ device is the only one in the world that prevents the formation of stenoses and helps to develop and maintain vascular access. As such, it is also the only one that prevents reinterventions due to stenoses in hemodialysis patients, who, until now would in most cases have had to have a dialysis catheter inserted.
The advanced surgical method opens a new cycle in the operation of the Henry Dunant Vascular Access Center, which was created in 2023 to offer personalised care and innovative solutions to renal patients. It is, in fact, the only private specialized service center for dialysis patients in Greece and one of the few in Europe, while it is staffed by a team of vascular surgeons specialized in vascular access (arteriovenous fistula) with many years of training in the largest centers in Europe.
The high quality services offered by the Henry Dunant model Vascular Access Centre to renal patients and the specialized treatment with innovative methods, especially of the most difficult cases, are now guaranteed by the collaboration of the leading vascular surgeon Mr. Alexandros Mallios.
