Activities

  • Surgical treatment of patients with thyroid cancer who apart from complete thyroidectomy they have to be subjected to extensive cervical lymphadenectomy.
  • Re-interventions for thyroid abnormalities in patients who, due to relapse or residual disease, have to be re-subjected to secondary surgery.
  • Treatment of patients with overactive thyroid gland (Graves’s disease, toxic multi-nodular goiter, solitary toxic adenoma of the thyroid gland) when alternative forms of conservative treatment have failed.
  • Surgical treatment of patients for primary hyperparathyroidism, either due to parathyroid adenoma or due to multiple gland disease (hyperplasia). These procedures are performed along with the intraoperative measurement of the parathyroid hormone.
  • Intraoperative neuromonitoring (neurostimulator), i.e., recording of the function of the recurrent laryngeal and vagus nerves during thyroidectomy with or without cervical lymphadenectomy, and participation in international prospective studies. Over the past years the department has been also using continuous neurostimulation with excellent results.
